This presentation will detail the quilting journey and upcoming projects of Veruschka Zarate, of Pride & Joy Quilting. From traditional quilt piecing to falling in love with Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP), we will explore how she is using foundation paper piecing to bring about fresh and modern pieces for quilters to make. We will discuss her development as a quilt maker and designer sharing all sorts of tips, tricks and techniques she has learned along the way. She will also do a trunk show of her large-scale FPP pieces as well as upcoming projects.
Bridget O’Flaherty is a Canadian textile artist and quilter with over 30 years of experience turning thread and fabric into nature-inspired works of art. Known for her signature free-motion embroidery and thread painting techniques, Bridget weaves storytelling, sustainability, and creativity into every piece she creates.
As The Sustainable Quilter, Bridget champions eco-conscious practices in the quilting world—helping makers reduce their environmental impact without sacrificing beauty or quality.
She’s a sought-after speaker, workshop instructor, and contributor to quilt magazines, where she writes about practical ways to bring sustainability into the studio.
Bridget also hosts the Threads of Sustainability podcast, where she shares inspiring conversations with makers and changemakers in the textile arts. Her warm, approachable teaching style and passion for the environment have helped build a growing community of mindful, motivated quilters around the globe.
Céleste will present a trunk show with quilts made from a wide selection of fabrics, describing her personal quilting story.
Céleste explores how she learned the use of colour as it applies to quilters, employing colour theory to expand her confidence in making fabric and colour choices.
In this power point lecture Gunnel will show you how you can print on fabric using “found objects” from A (for Apple) to Z (for Zipper). While screen printing was her first and enduring love, she also loves using ordinary objects to create patterns. So far she must have a collection of 30+ different potato mashers, which she uses to create an infinite variety of patterns and textures. The sole of a pair of winter boots, a golf ball, hair curlers, irons, credit cards – and of course potato mashers – no textured thing is safe from experimenting!. Enjoy the experience and learn how these everyday objects can become the basis for colourful fabrics to use in your quilts!
